Liska as a Hub of Jewish Tradition

Dating back to the 1800s, Liska became a well-known center for Jewish religious and cultural life. Annually, thousands of pilgrims visit Liska, honoring Tzvi Hirsh Liska’s memory. Liska is home to over 500 Jewish heritage sites, from cemeteries to synagogues reflecting a long history. Close to 3,000 Jewish residents called Liska home by the late 1800s, creating a lively community. Liska’s heritage resonates in neighboring communities such as Kerestir and throughout Hungary. Each year, nearly 5,000 people visit Liska, attracted by its historical and spiritual landmarks.

Efforts to preserve Liska’s heritage are supported by both local and international groups.
